The State Board of the GFOA of Missouri would like to invite you to participate in our winter education event, the 2017 Winter Seminar, Thursday, February 23, 2017.  The seminar is being held at Stoney Creek Inn, Columbia MO  65203.



The conference agenda is listed below.  Seminar fees include seven (7.0) hours of training, breaks, and luncheon.  


MOGFOA member fee:  $95 (be sure you are logged in to receive the member's discount)
Non-members fee:         $125

Auditing & Financial Reporting Tips (1.5 CPE)
Speaker: Michele Graham, CPA – Partner at Botz Deal & Company, St. Charles, MO
This presentation will help you understand how to prepare a Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and how to prepare for the annual audit.  More specifically, you will understand the 3 basic sections of a CAFR and the components of each; basic elements of a transmittal letter; what’s included in the MD&A; format for financial statements; commonly misunderstood note disclosure requirements; preparing the statistical section; understanding the government-wide reports; understanding fund account; and talk about the audit process and what is needed to have a successful audit.

Speaker:  Greg Hodge – Director of Finance, City of Moberly, Joan Jadali, CPFO – Assistant City Manager/Director of Finance and Administration, City of Webster Groves

 Laura Peveler – Budget Officer, City of Columbia; Jamie Rouch – Finance Director, City of Branson; and Janet Watson – Director of Finance & Administration, City of Clayton

You will hear from several different cities on how they prepare the budget.  Items such as how to create a truly effective capital budget, setting up a performance based budget, how to deal with salaries and wages, multi-year budgets, etc.  Questions and discussion from attendees are encouraged

How to Successfully Survive a Presentation (2.0 CPE)
Speaker: Robin Blakely – CEO of Creative Center of America, Kansas City, MO
This presentation will give you tips on making presentations, how to deal with hostile and negative questions, how to deal with the media age of the internet, Facebook, blogs, etc, and how to deal with annoying and difficult people, including employees.  You will also get some tips on how to use Social Media to your benefit.  Group discussion is encouraged for this presentation.

This presentation will review labor and employment law.  Examples of topics covered are as follows:  Employee discipline, FLSA updates & off the clock work, FMLA Updates, etc.
